February 11th proclaimed national 211 day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – 211 has been a number that has meant a lot to thousands of South Central Kentucky residents and today, local officials from the city of Bowling Green, and Warren County shared their appreciation by proclaiming February 11 to be 211 day.
This year 211 answered 7,000 calls and wrote over 21,000 referrals to help get people what they need this past year. 211 helps people find resources to help pay rent, find food, pay bills as well as many other ways to serve the community. Bowling Green Mayor Todd Alcott says the best part is all the help stays right here helping people in our own community.
“its one of those numbers where we get called as the city and people are asking for, hey, what can you do? And there’s a lifeline out there. But to have that lifeline and to have the United Way and to know when people give, you know, to a combined federal campaign that is going local, it goes back to the people that have need. And when you’re helping, you know, people out there, there’s a better way of giving. And this is to me is one of the best ways to give” said Mayor Alcott
One representative with 211 says it’s helping the community that’s the best part of being apart of 211. However, the biggest problem that was expressed by 211 was the lack of knowledge of their existence in the community and are looking forward to getting their word out there to help even more people in 2025.
