Grayson Co. pursuit reaches over 100 mph, ends in tree
LEITCHIELD, Ky. – A Leitchfield man is in custody after police say he reached speeds over 100 miles per hour during a pursuit on Thursday.
According to the Leitchfield Police Department, on officer on patrol at the Bypass near Wallace Avenue saw a silver 2017 GMC Sierra pass by at an estimated 90 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.
Police say they estimate at one point, the vehicle reached speeds between 110 to 120 mph.
As police approached Grayson Springs Road, they say they activated their lights and saw the truck turn right onto Grayson Springs.
The driver then accelerated, and police say they activated their siren. While pursuing the vehicle, police say they saw broken tree limbs before turning around and finding the truck 40 feet off of the road in the trees.
When police approached the vehicle, they broke the driver’s side window. Justin Huff, 20, of Leitchfield then stated he was fine and the only occupant, according to authorities.
Huff was evaluated by EMS but refused treatment. He was arrested and transported to jail without further incident.
Huff is charged with speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit and first-degree fleeing or evading police.
