Kentucky announces removal of drought declarations for all counties

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A drought declaration for the Commonwealth of Kentucky is now removed.
The Office of the State Climatologist and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, in coordination with the Kentucky Drought Mitigation Team, announced the removal of the Level 1 Drought Declarations for all 120 counties on Thursday. The declarations were issued on September 23. Moderate to severe drought conditions had developed statewide
The agencies say the precipitation from the remnants of Hurricane Helene has eliminated rain deficits and improved stream flows and soil moisture levels. The light to moderate precipitation allowed water to infiltrate into the soil column and return to pre-summer levels.
Officials say there are no current concerns with drinking water supplies. Monitoring of drinking water supplies will continue.
