Member resigns from Metcalfe County Board of Education after 13 years

EDMONTON, Ky. – The Metcalfe Board of Education is accepting applications for a vacant seat.
According to a release by Metcalfe County Schools, the board accepted the resignation of school board member Donnie Perry during a regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
Perry represented District 1 for more than 13 years, the release says.
“It has been an honor to serve Metcalfe County and especially my district for all of these years,” Perry said. “I wish the school district well and look forward to serving our community in various ways in the future.”
Superintendent Josh Hurt said, “Donnie Perry has spent a lifetime in the service of the people of Metcalfe County. I appreciate his efforts these past many years on the school board and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Donnie is a good man and has served with dignity and honor. He leaves big shoes to fill.”
The board is now accepting applications for the vacant seat in District 1, which includes the Center, Sulphur Well and Savoyard areas of Northern Metcalfe County. Applications are available on the district’s website here and the Central Office at 709 W. Stockton St. in Edmonton.
The district says the board also approved a working budget for the 2024-25 school year, a contract to provide hearing-impaired services to students at Barren County Schools and a partnership with the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative to bring additional mental health services to Metcalfe County Schools.
The board also considered the first read of an update to board policy 09.123 Absences and Excuses that reflects a new law enacted earlier this year.
The board honored MCES paraeducator Cheryl Reece as the Classified Employee of the Month and MCES exceptional education teacher Lauran Dover as Certified Employee of the Month. Board recognitions are sponsored by RBS Design Group, Glass & Thompson Insurance and American Fidelity.
The next board meeting is Monday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.
