Finley confirms successful surgery, looks ahead to return
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday evening, WKU Football quarterback TJ Finley shared on social media a photo of himself after what appears to be a successful procedure on the lower leg injury he suffered against the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders this past Saturday.

“I’ll be back,” the Hilltopper QB captioned his post on Instagram, as he hopes for a speedy recovery to the field, after passing for 490 yards and a touchdown in three games of action for the Tops.
The guy filling his role during the healing process, QB Caden Veltkamp, led WKU to a big rivalry win in Murfreesboro, and is poised for a solid first-career start this upcoming weekend, but Tuesday after the Hilltoppers practice, he made sure that everyone knew how special the bond was between himself and Finley.
“He texted me after the [MTSU] game on the bus, and sent a really encouraging message,” Veltkamp said. “Me and him have a really good relationship, it’s not a relationship that you would think the two guys who were competing would have.”
Many of Finley’s teammates shared uplifting comments under his post, including running back Elijah Young, who said “Minor Set Back For A Major Comeback!!”
Veltkamp echoed those same sentiments on Tuesday evening, saying “I texted him and told him I’m praying for him, and hopefully he’ll be coming out here tomorrow with us to help me out, because Lord knows I’m going to need it.”
Veltkamp and the rest of the WKU Football team will look to continue winning in the absence of Finley when they return to Houchens-Smith Stadium Saturday night, where they will host the Toledo Rockets. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
