BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Sept. 7, 2026) – The expected traffic impacts in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area for Sept. 7 through Sept. 11 are listed below. All work is subject to change.

Interstate 165

A project to completely restore and preserve the I-165 bridges over the Green River (mile point 32.6) in Butler County continues. Motorists have switched onto the new traffic pattern. Southbound motorists have been switched to the northbound side. The speed limit has been lowered to 55 mph. Motorists should use caution. The project is expected to last until later this year.

Barren County

KY 90 (mile points 0.2 to 8.8) – The project to enhance and safety and efficiency in this section is nearing completion. The final stages of the project have started. Crews will be adding rumble strips, guardrail work and thermo markings. Lane closures and delays are possible.

U.S 31-E (mile points 8 to 12) – A Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) on a section of U.S. 31-E in Barren County continues. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures from near J. Carter Road (mile point 8) to near the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway (mile point 12). Crews will complete drainage improvements at several locations along this section of roadway. A new turn lane will be added on U.S. 31-E at Windy Hills Road. Minor roadway widening also will be completed throughout the corridor. The widening will create a 4-foot centerline buffer between opposing travel lanes.

Logan County

U.S. 79 (mile points 15.2 to 16.1) – The roadway will be down to one lane during certain times as crews install rumbles in this section. Flaggers will be present so motorists should use caution.

Metcalfe County

U.S. 68 (from near KY 729 to KY 745) – A project to improve safety and mobility along a section of U.S. 68 in Green and Metcalfe Counties continues. The project will realign U.S. 68 from near KY 729 in Green County to KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The 1.2 miles of new alignment will feature 11-foot travel lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders. The new alignment is designed to reduce curvature and grade variations and will include construction of a new bridge over Caney Fork Creek. Motorists should use caution in this area.
U.S. 68 (at the intersection with KY 70) – The project is nearing completion. Minor traffic impacts are expected as the project wraps up.

Monroe County

KY 163 (mile points 14.6 – 17.4) – A resurfacing project in this section of KY 163 is expected to continue. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays in this area.

Todd County

U.S. 79 (from the Tennessee State line to the 3-mile marker) – A project to widen U.S. 79 in Todd County from the Tennessee State line to mile marker 3 continues. Motorists should expect some lane closures and construction vehicles entering the roadway.

Warren County

U.S. 31-W (from KY 234 to Park Street) – A project to widen the U.S. 31-W Bypass to five lanes from KY 234 to Park Street in northern Bowling Green continues. A long-term construction zone has been set up, narrowing traffic to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. This is for the construction zone only. The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2027. Delays and traffic queues should be expected. Monday, Sept. 7, this section of road will be down to one lane from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should expect additional traffic backup and delays.
KY 884 (From McCoy Place to Fieldstone Boulevard) – A widening project has started. The roadway will be widened to three lanes. A roundabout will be constructed at the Smallhouse Road intersection. Sidewalks will also be built on both sides of the road along with a new bridge over I-165. Motorists should expect delays as the project progresses.
