Mammoth Cave National Park hosting clean up event on Sept. 14

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky.- Mammoth Cave National Park is offering visitors a special opportunity for VIP treatment by volunteering in the park.

In honor of the Sept. 11 National Day of Service, the park is hosting its second annual Volunteer River Cleanup event. This day of service provides a meaningful way for people to honor and remember those who served and sacrificed on 9/11.

According to Molly Schroer, the public information officer at Mammoth Cave, the event is a chance for volunteers to give back to the community while reflecting on the tragic events of 2001.

The cleanup not only enhances the beauty and sanitation of the park but also plays a crucial role in protecting local wildlife habitats. By removing debris from the rivers and surrounding areas, volunteers help ensure that both the environment and the creatures that call it home remain safe.

Schroer emphasized the importance of this effort, stating, “This is going to be held in honor of the 9/11 day of service, a way to give back to the community in remembrance of all the sacrifices made.”

Participation in the event is a powerful way to contribute to both the park and the broader community while commemorating a significant historical event.
