Man charged with drug trafficking in Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A Russellville man is facing multiple charges, including drug trafficking, following a traffic stop on Sunday.
According to a uniform citation, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2006 white Hyundai Sonata traveling east bound on U.S. 68-80 with one working headlight around 1:30 a.m.
The citation states deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Brian Schutt, 41, of Russellville.
Authorities say they explained the reason for the stop and discovered Schutt’s driver’s license was suspended. Schutt had dilated pupils during this time, deputies say.
Schutt was asked to exit the vehicle and was arrested after multiple field sobriety tests.
Deputies say they searched the vehicle and located a glass pipe, a locked safe containing 48 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a white straw, scales caked in a white substance, suboxone strips and multiple small bags.
Authorities say they believe Schutt was under the influence of methamphetamine and was selling it as well.
Schutt was transported to The Medical Center at Russellville before being taken to the Logan County Detention Center. Deputies say they have submitted a search warrant for Schutt’s cellphone for any potential evidence.
Schutt is charged with one headlight, operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, first offense, drug paraphernalia – deliver/manufacture, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (at least 2 grams of methamphetamine), failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation and second-degree possession of a controlled substance – drug unspecified.
