Man charged with DUI after traffic stop in Logan County school zone
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing charges related to operating a vehicle under the influence in Logan County.
According to a release by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies say they were conducting a speed detail on Sept. 5 around 2:45 p.m. on U.S. 68-80 in the Logan County High School school zone.
Deputies say they conducted a traffic stop on a 2012 Ford Escape for speeding. Authorities say the radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling 63 miles per hour in a 45 mph school zone.
The driver was identified as Matthew T. Grimes, 32, of Bowling Green.
Deputies say upon contact with Grimes, they immediately detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside of the vehicle.
A DUI investigation led to Grimes being arrested.
Grimes additionally measured at .178 on a breath test, authorities say.
Grimes was transported to the Logan County Detention Center.
He is charged with speeding 18 miles per hour (school zone) and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense (aggravated circumstances).
