Victory Hill Dream Center hands out bags of hope
ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – With the support from their first grant, the Victory Hill Dream Center, Scottville Allen Faith Coalition and Team Kentucky have launched an impactful initiative: the creation of “Leave Behind Bags” for emergency services and law enforcement officers.
These bags are designed to be distributed when officers and EMS personnel encounter individuals struggling with addiction. Darren Blankenship, a coordinator at Victory Hill Church and a person in recovery himself, expressed the significance of this effort, saying, “These bags say hope, and that’s what these people need.”
He believes that providing such support is in line with what Jesus would do.
The contents of the Leave Behind Bags are thoughtfully curated to offer practical help. Each bag includes Narcan, recovery home information, test strips and details about recovery meetings, giving people multiple resources to start their path to recovery. Ann Langman, director of paramedics, highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting the increase in overdoses and the necessity of accessible resources for those in crisis.
Scottville police chief Darren Tabor emphasized the importance of combating various drugs, including meth, fentanyl and heroin. He committed to removing these substances from the streets and supporting the community’s efforts. Collective unity and collaboration among local organizations play a crucial role in addressing addiction effectively.
The Victory Hill Dream Center is not stopping here. Blankenship revealed plans to expand their community outreach, stating that this initiative brings them closer to their goal of greater community involvement. He hopes that this project will open doors for more opportunities to assist those in need.
In addition to these efforts, the Victory Hill Dream Center will be hosting a Narcan training session in November to further equip individuals with essential knowledge and tools.
