Kosair for Kids grants nonprofits more than $75,000

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Tuesday, the contributions of Kids on the Block and the Family Enrichment Center were celebrated for their vital roles in protecting and empowering children within the community.

These organizations play a critical part in providing prevention tools that enable children to safeguard themselves, reflecting their commitment to child welfare.

Nicki Jones, executive director of the Family Enrichment Center, highlighted the essential nature of childcare for working parents. “We realize that parents cannot work without care,” Jones remarked. She emphasized that having access to reliable childcare is a significant factor in many parents’ lives, particularly for single parents who face unique challenges.

Christine Thorn, manager at the Family Enrichment Center, shared her personal experience as a single mother.

“I was a single parent and going around their therapies and taking them to doctor’s appointments,” Thorn said. “I was unable to get a job because I couldn’t fit parenting into that schedule, which I’m sure a lot of single parents agree with. It’s hard to balance.” Her story underscores the struggle many single parents face in managing work and childcare responsibilities.

Despite these obstacles, Thorn’s experience demonstrates the power of community support.

“If they have to take their child to a doctor’s appointment and they just don’t have the funds, they’re not alone,” she added.

This support network has proven to be a lifeline for many families, making a significant difference in their lives.

Jones echoed this sentiment, reflecting on the daily mission of the Family Enrichment Center. “We wake up every morning knowing it’s a new day to change lives and improve situations,” she said. “We provide not only childcare but also support for families in Warren County and the surrounding areas.”

The celebration today served as a reminder of the profound impact these organizations have on the community. By offering crucial support and resources, Kids on the Block and the Family Enrichment Center are helping to build a stronger, more resilient community, proving that it truly does take a village.
