Warren County Public Schools back in session Aug. 7
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s that time of year again, and life will take some getting used to for the next couple of weeks.
News 40 spoke to Steve Chappell, director of safety and school resource officer manager for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, who said that everyone will need a plan that first week of August.
Chappell said it would benefit parents and guardians to start familiarizing themselves and their students with bus stops near their home so that no one is rushing around on their first day of school, among other pieces of advice.
To motorists and pedestrians, Chappell said there will be a lot of students out and about, so everyone needs to be aware of when and where they are.
According to the safety director, WCPS has approximately 18,000 students enrolled this year who will be taking not only buses and cars but also walking and biking to school. School zones are sure to be heavily congested, and to make for the easiest morning, make sure you are paying attention to deputies who will be directing traffic.
In regard to this, Chappell urged parents to not drop off their student anywhere other than approved locations because that could also hold up traffic and pose a safety risk with students crossing the road.
Chappell recommended that everyone start their day about 30 minutes earlier to make sure no one feels the need to speed or is late getting to where they need to go and encouraged parents to visit the school district’s website to figure out the best stops in your area.
