Indiana man wanted for kidnapping and rape apprehended in Simpson County

FRANKLIN, Ky. – A man wanted out of Indiana is facing multiple charges after a pursuit led to his arrest in Simpson County.

On Tuesday, July 23 around 9 a.m., the Kentucky State Police says it received a call from Marion County, Indiana law enforcement requesting assistance to locate Cody Ray Medsker, 28, of New Castle, Indiana.

According to a uniform citation, Indiana law enforcement stated it was seeking warrants for Medsker for kidnapping, rape of a minor and other charges.

KSP and other authorities began to try to locate Medsker around exit 6 in Franklin, Kentucky.

The drug task force initially spotted a 2016 red Chevrolet Silverado and spoke to the driver Medsker was traveling with, the uniform citation states.

According to a release by KSP, the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force spotted Medsker at the One 9 fueling Station, where he left out the back of the building.

KSP, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin Police Department and the drug task force assisted at the scene.

Troopers gave verbal commands for Medsker to stop and get on the ground, but he continued running until they lost sight of him, authorities say.

Medsker then ran south to a nearby cornfield on the 800 block of Rapids Road and hid from law enforcement, according to KSP.

A total of 30 law enforcement officers surrounded the cornfield and gave loud verbal commands for Medsker to leave the field with his hands up.

Mesker did not comply, according to troopers, and two KSP helicopters arrived, along with seven KSP troopers entering the cornfield. Troopers say the search began at 10:49 a.m.

At 2:17 p.m., troopers say they located Medsker. While trying to detain Medsker, troopers say he refused to show his hands and pulled away, leading to the deployment of a KSP K-9.

Medsker was detained and transported to the Medical Center at Franklin, where he was treated and released.

Medsker is lodged at the Simpson County Detention Center.

He is charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, second-degree indecent exposure, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree burglary and faces multiple warrants.
