BGPD hosts training with local agencies to prepare for any scenario

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is hosting their annual training to prepare for any situations they may face.

BGPD, along with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Bowling Green Fire Department, WKU Police and Med Center EMS are taking part throughout the multi-day training.

Tuesday, they focused on what would happen if they had to respond to an active shooter call.

This specific training helps prepare officers for one of the scariest calls they might encounter, and taught them how to respond in a timely manner.

“Going over and over and over these scenarios… working out all… any potential problems, we certainly want to make those errors in training and learn how to get past those then we do something in real life. So it’s great value to us. It’s a great value to the other agencies. We’re grateful they were able to that they’re able to participate as well,” BGPD Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward says.

He also told us the scenarios they use for the training can be based on events that have happened either locally or nationally in recent years.

It’s all about taking things they learn one day and applying them on other days to make sure officers are applying what they learn.
