Murdered teacher mourned

(WPBN) A school community in Grand Traverse County, Michigan is mourning the loss of a friend and former teacher murdered in the Dominican Republic.

Patricia Anton, 63, was found bound, gagged and strangled to death in her apartment on the north side of the island Tuesday.

Investigators said her death appeared to be part of a burglary, because her phone, laptop and TV were missing.

In 2014, Anton went to teach at a montessori school in the Dominican Republic.

Her family is in shock about what happened.

“I can’t imagine what kind of monster could do something like that to such a kind soul,” said Adrianne Machina, Anton’s cousin.

Before moving to the island, Anton taught upper elementary students at The Children’s House just outside Traverse City.
