BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is sharing some information about firework use ahead of Independence Day.

According to the sheriff’s office, the ordinance regarding the use of fireworks within the county states, “Persons may use, ignite, fire or explode those fireworks authorized by KRS Chapter 227 and this subchapter in the County. Fireworks, including consumer fireworks, may only be used June 27 through July 3 and on July 5 and July 6 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. On July 4, fireworks, including consumer fireworks, may be used between the hours of 10 a.m. until midnight. Any person wishing to use, ignite, fire or explode those fireworks authorized by KRS Chapter 227 on any other day may obtain a permit from the Warren County judge executive’s office.”

The sheriff’s office also asks to remember that hot, dry and windy conditions can lead to a potentially disastrous situation with fireworks.

Some safety tips include obeying local ordinances regulating the sale and use of fireworks, following label directions, always having adult supervision, using fireworks and sparklers in safe areas away from fields, forests and buildings, lighting one firework at a time, handling lighters safely, never pointing or throwing the fireworks or sparklers at people or animals, keeping water and garden tools nearby and wetting towels to extinguish small flames.

Deputies say to stay aware of your location and the weather conditions when setting off fireworks.
