Finding families, Warren County Coroner asks community to stay vigilant

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – It’s a sad thought but an unfortunate reality for some, dying alone.

The Warren County Coroner’s office from time to time runs into situations where people pass and there are no family to be found or clues leading to family. When the coroner comes across this, they ask the community for help. Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby told News 40 that when they find a person with no immediate family contact surrounding them, they take to social and news media to illicit some tips.

Kirby said any kind of information can be helpful, he said they take tips seriously and do all the tracking down they can before asking the Warren County Judge-Executive Office for a court order to proceed with a small burial for the individual in question.

Kirby asked the community to come forward with any information regarding deceased persons to either the coroner or local law enforcement as it could lead to finding family and providing solace for families who might be wondering what ever happened.

The coroner told us that he’s been working in the office for over 40 years and over that time, he said he’s seen “cases in Warren County where people had been in their home, dead for 2 or 3 months and no one knew. That’s sad that someone died like that with no family or friends checking on them.”
