Here’s what to wear as you clean up storm debris

If you’re out and about this week cleaning up after Sunday’s storms, there are a few tips from the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control that you should know. They recommend that you wear protective equipment as damaged trees may continue to drop branches and they may have some rigid edges to them. That means you should be wearing gloves, a hard hat, and goggles for eye protection.

The CDC also says that heat stress can be avoided by taking frequent water and shade breaks.

You may need an N-95 respirator, as it helps reduce exposure to dust and other particles that may come out of clean-up efforts.

If you’re cleaning up sewage, you should be wearing rubber boots along with gloves and goggles.

Finally, the CDC recommends that you wash your hands with soap before eating to avoid ingesting any contaminants. If water is not available, you can use hand sanitizer but only if it’s at least 60% alcohol.
