Edmonson County issues burn ban until further notice

EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – Edmonson County is now under a burn ban.
On Tuesday, Judge Executive Ronald Scott Lindsey issued an executive order banning all open burning due to “extraordinary drought conditions.”
The order states that campfires are permitted in an established campground.
“Violations of the order are considered Class A Misdemeanors and carry a penalty of up to a $500 fine and up to 365 days, or both fine and jail,” the order states.
The burn ban will be in effect until further notice.
Judge Executive Ronald Scott Lindsey issued the following statement
After speaking with many of the Fire Chiefs of the Departments in the County, I have signed a burn ban effective immediately. This decision is never made lightly, or without consulting the Fire Chiefs and our Emergency Management Director. We issue burn bans to try to help insure the safety of our communities. It is extremely dry right now, and the temperature is in the severe category with a Heat Advisory in effect until Thursday. There is also not a possible chance of rain in the 10 day forecast, except a 20% chance on a couple of days. We feel it is in the best interest of safety for our communities to issue the burn ban.
