Bicyclist dies after being struck by vehicle in Letcher County

ISOM, Ky. – A bicyclist is dead after allegedly being struck by a vehicle in Letcher County.

According to Trooper Matt Gayheart, public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 13, shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, troopers received a call regarding a possible fatal collision on KY-1148 in the Isom community.

Authorities say troopers and medical personnel responded to the scene.

Troopers say an initial investigation found a vehicle was traveling westbound on KY-1148 when it struck a bicyclist, later identified as 38-year-old Lloyd Collins of Whitesburg.

Collins was pronounced dead on scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

No autopsy will be conducted, and toxicology results are pending, authorities say. Troopers say no helmet was in use at the time of collision.

The incident remains under investigation.
