Glasgow High School ranked top 20 in the state for ACT scores

Athletics aren’t the only thing the Glasgow Scotties score well in…

Glasgow High School continues to soar above the state’s average ACT score.

Even though the Kentucky Department of Education indicates there is a decrease in ACT performance across the state, Glasgow High School is one of the top 20 high schools in the state for highest overall ACT scores.

“Our kids will tell you, that to be a Scottie is just so important to them and just the tradition that comes along with that and the expectations and the community. People just expect more out of Glasgow High School students." says Dr. Amy Allen, the principal of Glasgow High School.

Glasgow High School was just ranked number 17 out of 229 high schools in the Commonwealth for highest overall ACT scores.

The average ACT score at Glasgow High School is 21, while the state average is 19.3

“That’s just a result of a lot of hard work and dedication. All of our kids come into the building with all kinds of dreams and aspirations and we do our best to make sure those come true. One of the ways we help students with that is really by providing them a top-notch education.” says Dr. Allen.

Glasgow High School helps students build a foundation to success by identifying the strengths of each students.

Amanda is one of 33 seniors who scored a 28 or higher on her ACT score.

“I was a part of a program that we do here as a freshman and I was actually given a free waiver to take the ACT for the first time my freshman year and then I got to do that again my sophomore year. So I was given almost a head start in a sense because I was able to take the ACT multiple times before it really counted.” says Amanda Lee, a senior at Glasgow High Score.

Many students, like Antonio, are English learners.

He says school staff not only prepared him for the ACT, but they also gave him the knowledge to overcome many obstacles.

“All of the teachers are engaged and providing you the best education they can and preparing you for college. It’s a really comforting feeling that teachers around you want you to succeed.” says Antonio Hernandez, a senior at Glasgow High School.

“I am just excited. I am very proud of our teachers, very proud of our students because they are the ones that really put in a lot of the work and they make the effort to be here at school every day. They take it very seriously.” adds Dr. Allen.

This is not the first year the school has done well. Glasgow High School has had an overall ACT score of 21 or higher 5 times in the past 6 years.
