TAYLOR COUNTY, Ky. – Chief Guy Howie with the Glasgow Police Department has released a statement confirming the death of a Glasgow sergeant’s wife in a collision over the weekend.
Howie stated Monday that Tracy York-Murrell, the wife of Sgt. Cameron Murrell, was killed in a vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon in Taylor County.
According to a release by the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to the two-vehicle collision on Kentucky 55.
According to authorities, Allen Glen Yates, 60, of Columbia, Kentucky was traveling north on KY 55 in a 2002 Ford F-150 when he crossed the center line of the roadway.
Troopers say Yates then struck a 2021 Nissan Rogue head on that was being driven by Tracy York-Murrell, 39, of Columbia.
York-Murrell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cameron Murrell, 33, of Columbia was treated and released from University of Louisville Hospital for severe but non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.
The Glasgow police chief also stated the following:
“Sgt. Cameron Murrell is a valued member of our department, and our hearts ache for him during this incredibly difficult time. The entire Glasgow Police Department extends our sincerest condolences and support to Sgt. Murrell and his family as they navigate this devastating loss.”
“We ask that the community respect the privacy of the Murrell family as they grieve the loss of Tracy. Our department is providing Sgt. Murrell with the necessary support and resources, and we will continue to stand by him as he copes with this tragedy. We urge everyone to keep Sgt. Murrell and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning.”
