Over-crowding at Humane Societies and local shelters
BUTLER COUNTY, KY.- In the spring season, it’s common for kittens and puppies to be born around this time.
Several animal shelters and humane societies across South Central Kentucky are experiencing overcrowding. Some animals can even carry different diseases that aren’t treated properly. To help cut down on over-populating unhealthy pets, you should get them spayed and neutered and get your animals vaccinated.
Makayla Lowe-Sikes, the veterinary assistant and kennel tech says, “When it comes to talking about animal shelters and pet overpopulation, we will not be able to adopt our way out of a pet overpopulation crisis. The only way we can do it is to fix spay and neuter, things like that. There will never be enough homes at the rate we are going, and we’re seeing little shelters, full rescues, and overcrowding like it’s never been before.”
The Butler County Animal Shelter offers free DHLPP vaccines for dogs and free FVRCP vaccines for dogs. For more information on what is available for your dog or cat head over to the Butler County Animal Shelter’s Facebook https://www.facebook.com/butlercoshelter.
