Habitat for Humanity talks new funding for affordable housing in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- According to city officials, there is a critical need for housing in several communities in Bowling Green, but thanks to a new grant, that could change for some families.
A recent study shows that Bowling Green is 14,000 units short of housing. We sat down with Habitat for Humanity, and they told us that the Community Development Block Disaster Grant Disaster Recovery Funding will help decrease the homeless population, and it will help create a stable life for those in need.
More than $2 million was presented last week to fund the project.
Rodney Goodman, Habitat for Humanity executive director, says, “We want to see our families succeed. And so this gives them an opportunity. Homeownership allows them to build wealth into their own life and to be able to gain strength, stability, and self-reliance and not have to be reliant on others.”
Every year, Habitat for Humanity takes applications for affordable housing, and this year, Habitat for Humanity will begin building the new housing in the summer. They are scheduled to open by the end of 2024.
