Skunk Mating Season in South Central Kentucky
SOUTH CENTRAL, KY.-Love is in the air this month, and you may have noticed that it doesn’t smell good.
Skunk mating season happening right now. Males are searching for their mates and they might make a den out of your home.
You may find them in your shed or in your crawl space. According to the Fish and Wildlife coordinator, this is why there is a lot of roadkill.
The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife program coordinator, Laura Palmer tells us that the skunks are normal, and their movement makes it seem like more than what it is. She says, “Skunks have been common throughout Kentucky, you know, for many, many years. So they’re stable. They occur statewide and they are just more visible, you know, especially on the side of the road this time of year, just because they’re more actively breeding and moving more, you know, longer distances.”
If you find a family of skunks, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife urges everyone to call wildlife control operators, and never approach them. They have a natural fear of humans, and their response will be to spray you. For more tips on how to keep skunks away and what to do visit
