Junior NBA Program at the Bowling Green Boys and Girls Club
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Boys and Girls Club is introducing Junior NBA BG and uniting the community.
Thanks to the support from Bowling Green native and current Chicago Bulls NBA player Terry Taylor, kids across the city will have a greater chance to chase their dreams.
Taylor tells us why he came back to Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary School, where an assembly was held and a new banner was unveiled for the program.
“Everybody needs someone that they can look up to. I never had a professional athlete growing up that came back and beat anybody. So, you know, I just want to use who I am as a platform, as a person, just to give back to the kids and the community,” Taylor says.
Not only will the kids be able to gain training and knowledge about the NBA, they will also be inspired by someone who is in the NBA. All PBC students will be offered free entry to the recreational league, according to the Bowling Green Independent School District.
Tori Hughes is a middle school football player, and she shares what this means to her.
Tori says, “It’s, like, really inspiring to have somebody, like, from Kentucky come down here to see you basically have a good role model and stuff.”
Tyreon Clark, a director at the Bowling Green Boys and Girls Club, shares that there are several programs for children, but they aren’t always affordable and he wants to change that.
Clarks says, “We want our kids to know who they are, what they represent in our surrounding areas and into and just know that they can achieve those same dreams if they put in the work.”
