National Children’s speaks about National Children’s Dental Health Month

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and one in five children has a cavity.

Many kids consume sugar and don’t clean their teeth consistently. This can impact their health in more ways than one.

Experts say children with poor oral health often miss school and receive lower grades. Toothaches can also affect other body parts, and creating healthy teeth habits now will help parents and their children later.

Dr. Joshua Phillips, a dentist at Med Center Dental Clinic, shares how importance of your kid starting young.

He says, “There’s a common misconception that children’s teeth fall out. They get adult teeth. So it’s almost like they start over. You’re setting a precedent, you’re learning how to take care of your teeth, so there is a little bit of a trial period there. But at the same time, it also affects your child’s overall health.”

Dr. Phillips recommends brushing your teeth twice a day and not consuming sugar after brushing will help a child limit the amount of common oral diseases.
