Warren County warming centers see large turnout
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Warming centers proved to be a much-needed place for many people in Warren County during the brutal winter weather last week.
Many nonprofit organizations came together and used Christ Episcopal Church, Capitol Theatre and other locations in Warren County to create spaces for people who did not have shelter from the cold.
A warming center volunteer, Hugh Trimble with BG Neighbors Aid Network, shares that they saw at least 60 people a day walk through the doors of one warming center.
Hugh says, “During these weather emergencies, folks don’t have a place to go. These are life-threatening conditions, so of course, there are places to stay at night in some circumstances. But what were shelters during the day where people could be allowed to congregate safely.”
Local volunteers know that it’s not about if severe weather happens, but it’s when severe weather happens.
If you would like to help in any way for future needs, you can donate warm clothes to Room in the Inn, Bowling Green Neighbors Aid Network, Hotel INC and many other local nonprofits.
