Barren River Animal Welfare Association beginning berm construction

GLASGOW, Ky.- When it rains, flooding is a major problem at Barren River Animal Welfare Association, because the nonprofit is built on a flood zone. The constant flooding has been happening for years and is the cause for constructing a new system.

Construction workers will begin constructing a berm system around the animal shelter, building a bowl-shaped berm to keep the water out and a pump to push the water out. This will help the shelter and guarantee that the animals don’t have to experience the trauma the shelter may face if it does flood.

Connie Greer, general manager of BRAWA says, “We are going to have some things look a little different than they did, but it’s going to safeguard the people that work here and the people who visit here. And number one, the animals from us flooding again.”

The construction of the berm system will be complete in about three months if the weather permits. News 40 will keep you up to date with the completion of this new construction.
