Expert talks to sheriffs about psychological preparedness
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At the Kentucky Sheriff’s Conference Thursday, Dave Grossman, an American author and a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, gave a talk on the study of the psychology of killing and psychological preparedness.
He spoke to the sheriffs about carrying their weapons, practicing drawing their weapons, training for sharper aim and much more.
Grossman also laid out a list of bodily reactions to extreme stress such as blacking out part of the memory, tunnel vision and hearing impairment.
He said knowing the effect your body naturally will have allows someone to understand the reaction is normal and handle the situation more calmly.
Grossman also talked about how sleep deprivation can affect the everyday life of law enforcement when it comes to focus and alertness.
Grossman challenged those in attendance to not drink caffeine after lunch and not to drink alcohol or use nicotine before bed starting immediately.
