Day of Caring makes a difference for local nonprofits

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The annual Day of Caring in Southern Kentucky has brought another year of success.
For the 15th year, volunteers Wednesday from dozens of local companies, as well as individuals, gathered to “Live United” to improve the community.
United Way of Southern Kentucky says a total of roughly 1,000 volunteers showed up, completing 60 nonprofit projects in six counties.
The nonprofit says the projects were designed to address issues with education, income, health and safety net.
Two of these locations included a group of Warren County Public Schools employees at the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center’s kitchen and Fruit of the Loom volunteers at Oakland Elementary School to paint classrooms.
“There are few greater feelings in life than watching a community come together. But that feeling is amplified when it is your own community that you are watching do so. It is truly incredible to see so many people lend a helping hand each Day of Caring,” said Debbie Hills, president & CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky. “ To all the volunteers, thank you, on behalf of the many nonprofits whom you have personally helped, for giving your time, and volunteering this Day of Caring.”
