Proposal to ban slot-like machines sent to Kentucky governor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky’s Senate has voted to ban devices resembling slot machines that have proliferated in the state. The vote caps one of the most bitter policy fights of the year. The bill won Senate passage Tuesday and now goes to Gov. Andy Beshear. It was an anticlimactic finale for a heavily lobbied bill that created plenty of drama. In early March it was tabled in the House, only to be revived and passed days later. House Speaker David Osborne made the motion that resumed consideration of the proposal. Opponents of the ban pushed for legislation that would regulate and tax the machines.
