Kentucky representative shares cancer survival story with Metcalfe County

EDMONTON, Ky. – Metcalfe County High School’s Pink Out on Saturday was met with a familiar face when alumna Rep. Amy Neighbors shared her story.
Metcalfe County Schools says Neighhors, the state representative for District 21 in Kentucky, battled stage 3 colon cancer since she was diagnosed in 2016.
“I realized I needed to warn my friends, family, and, quite frankly, anyone who would listen about this disease that doesn’t discriminate against age, sex or health status,” Neighbors said.
Neighbors has been cancer-free for seven years, but she continues to raise awareness.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. However, recommended screening guidelines can help detect certain cancers early.
Neighbors said her mantra during her cancer diagnosis and treatment was faith over fear.
“It’s natural to be afraid. I was afraid, but through prayer, I overcame my fears. I had faith that He was going to see me through,” she said.
