2 charged with manslaughter, 1 dead in drunk driving crash in Allen County

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – Two women are behind bars after a man died this morning following a crash involving drunk driving.

The Scottsville Police Department responded to an injury accident on Thursday, Sept. 1 around 8:16 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 31-E and KY 100.

A 2017 Nissan operated by 28-year-old Annissa K. Stanton of Nashville, Tennessee was traveling north on US 31-E and failed to stop at a red traffic light at the intersection, according to authorities. Authorities further stated a 2006 Buick operated by 78-year-old Vernon D. Cooper of Scottsville was traveling east on KY 100 and crossed into the path of the Nissan.

Stanton, along with a passenger, 34-year-old Desiree R. O’Neal, were transported to The Medical Center at Scottsville for treatment and released to police custody.

Cooper was also transported to The Medical Center at Scottsville, where authorities stated he was later pronounced dead by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Stanton was arrested and lodged in the Allen County Detention Center, where she faces several charges, including first-degree manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (DUI), first-degree wanton endangerment, disregarding a traffic control device, reckless driving and operating on a suspended license.

O’Neal was arrested and lodged in the Allen County Detention Center, where she is facing charges of first-degree manslaughter (complicity) and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
