101st Airborne Division deploys to Europe for first time in nearly 80 years

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Hundreds of Screaming Eagle Soldiers departed Fort Campbell Wednesday for their nine-month deployment to the European Command theater of operations.

According to a release by Fort Campbell, the soldiers’ deployment is to assure NATO allies and deter Russian aggression in the region. This is the first time the division has deployed to Europe in almost 80 years, stated the release.

Fort Campbell stated Screaming Eagle Soldiers began arriving in Europe in late June.

In total, around 4,700 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division will deploy to locations across Europe.
