Trump rallies base

(NBC News) President Trump rallied his base in Panama City Beach, Florida Wednesday night, just hours after lawmakers voted to hold his attorney general in contempt of Congress, and after a Republican-led committee subpoenaed his oldest son, Donald Trump Jr. – both in connection to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling.

A source tells NBC News that the Senate Judiciary Committee wants to ask Trump Jr. why he told Congress two years ago that he knew little about the effort to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, during the 2016 presidential campaign, and whether or not he told his father about a June meeting with Russians in New York.

Michael Cohen, then a lawyer for the Trump Organization, who was pursuing the project, told the committee a different story. He testified that he briefed Trump Jr. and his sister Ivanka Trump about the project “approximately 10” times. The Mueller report also appears to contradict Trump Jr.’s assertions, but so far, the full version of that report has not yet been released.

The House Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to advance a measure that would hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress after President Trump claimed executive privilege to keep Democrats from seeing that full, unredacted report and its underlying evidence. A final vote on that measure has not yet been announced.
