Woman shot multiple times while infant was near her
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting that occurred 2913 North Mill Ave. Apt. A, according to a Bowling Green Police Department report.
Police were called after a woman at that address, Jessica Freeman, 20, called and reported being shot four times.
Police smelled an “overwhelming” burnt marijuana odor in the apartment and noted that a door to the apartment had been forced open, according to the report.
Police found Freeman on the floor next to her bed. Her four-month-old son was in a cradle chair near her, according to the report.
The infant was not injured, BGPD spokesman Officer Ronnie Ward said.
Police immediately began trying to stop Freeman’s bleeding as they waited for an ambulance.
She was taken to a Nashville trauma center.
Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Michael Simmons, Jr., age unknown on charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree assault, Ward said.
Police noted another recent break in at the same apartment.
