Woman dies after crashing into vehicle at fatal wreck site in Leslie County

BIG CREEK, Ky. – Three people are dead and two others were flown for treatment after two separate fatal collisions on the same road in Leslie County on Saturday.

According to authorities, around 2:54 p.m., a trooper was patrolling the Hal Rogers Parkway when he discovered a two-vehicle collision near the 37-mile marker.

The agency states a preliminary investigation found a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Taegan Mosley of Hyden was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lane, colliding head on with an SUV.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV and a juvenile passenger were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers say a passenger in the SUV, 64-year-old Penny Ison of Cornettsville, was transported by ambulance to Mary Breckinridge Hospital, where she later died due to her injuries. She was pronounced dead by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office.

Mosley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office.

While emergency personnel and investigators were processing this initial collision, authorities say a second fatal collision happened in the same area.

Around 7:43 p.m., while the road was still closed, a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Tracie Whittymore of London, Kentucky, drove through the established roadway closure and collided with the back of a parked commercial vehicle.

Authorities say Whittymore was pronounced dead at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office.

Toxicology testing is pending in both collisions. No autopsies will be conducted, authorities say. Both collisions remain under investigation.
