WKU Football: Highlights from the Hilltoppers’ season-opening loss to Central Arkansas

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football didn’t off the start they were hoping to in 2019.

The Hilltoppers fell to FCS Central Arkansas 35-28 on Thursday night, their second straight loss to an FCS school in a home opener.

Running back Gaej Walker had an impressive debut in the backfield for the Tops, rushing for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

While the secondary struggled for WKU’s defense, junior defensive end DeAngelo Malone had a stellar game, accounting for 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.

WKU (0-1) begins league play in week two, traveling to Miami to take on Conference USA foe Florida International (0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 7.
