UPDATE: Woman arrested after bomb threat at WKU
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU PD has arrested a woman in connection with an unfounded bomb threat on Western Kentucky University’s campus.
WKU student Hailee Alexis Reed, 20, was arrested Wednesday by WKU police and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.
The arrest follows an incident the same day at WKU, where police were on scene near Parking Structure 2 after they say a bomb threat was made via social media.
According to court documents, WKU Police were contacted around 11:44 a.m. by a professor that said someone had made an anonymous bomb threat on campus. The documents further stated the original message posted on Yik Yak stated “next bomb threat will be in Ps2. ya’ll prepare yourselves.”
After investigating, authorities determined the threat was unfounded and said the location was all clear. Following this, authorities stated they had taken a person of interest into WKU PD custody. The alleged threat was following an incident regarding a possible explosive device near Cherry Hall, which is not related to Reed’s arrest at this time.
Documents stated Reed called WKU dispatch and told them she had posted the threat before she was interviewed at the WKU Police Department, where she waved her Miranda rights after they were read to her and Reed said she posted the threat “as a joke.”
Documents additionally stated Reed stated that “she knew she made a terrible decision and never meant to cause this much trouble.” Following this, Reed was arrested and lodged at Warren County Detention Center.
Reed was since released early Thursday morning on a $6,000 bond.
