University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto visits BG Chamber of Commerce
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-A few hours ago, the University of Kentucky president Eli Capilouto made a stop in Bowling Green to meet with the Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber invited him to speak in front of their group and give an update on the campus and student body.
Capilouto said they’re educating more students than ever before in their history.
“We’re focusing on access and affordability. 25% of our students come from families whose average income is around $25,000 or less. We’ve kept our doors open wide for those students. and we have a record number of students on campus- 31,000 this semester,” said Dr. Capilouto.
And he said they’re doing big things on the medical side of the University.
The hospital is still ranked the #1 hospital in Kentucky.
And on Friday, the second class of students at the UK College of Medicine- BG Campus are graduating! He said it’s great to have this program here as our city continues to grow.
“The reason we certainly undertook this initiative is when we have too many underserved areas in Kentucky, if we recruit people from an area where they grow up and we provide them an excellent education then there’s a much greater likelihood that they’ll remain here,” said Dr. Capilouto.
He also said he’s rooting hard for Kentucky against Providence in the first round of March Madness.
