Tree planted in honor of Dr. Rebecca Shadowen at Med Center Health

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Dr. Rebecca Shadowen, a specialist in infectious diseases and healthcare epidemiology at Med Center Health and a leader with the Bowling Green–Warren County Coronavirus Workgroup, passed away in September following a four-month battle with COVID-19.

Now, the Med Center Health is planting a tree in her honor.

Shadowen first announced she tested positive for the virus nearly a year ago on May 13.

Shadowen joined the medical staff at The Medical Center at Bowling Green in 1989, and has been a physician leader in our region, across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and nationally for over 30 years.

The tree is the first of its kind in the state, a flamethrower redbud, according to the arborist who donated it.

Dozens of friends, family and coworkers showed up to remember the legacy Shadowen left on the community.

The tree now stands proud on the corner of High Street and 2nd Avenue in front of the Medical center parking garage.
