NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Todd County teen is charged with vehicular homicide following a crash in Tennessee Monday evening.

According to a media release, the Nashville Metro Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle collision on I-24 West near Old Hickory Boulevard at 10:20 pm.

Police say 18-year-old Zachary Abbott, of Trenton, was driving a GMC Yukon west on I-24 when he attempted to pass other vehicles. Abbott’s vehicle then traveled to the right shoulder and collided with an abandoned flatbed tow truck.

Authorities say the passenger side of Abbott’s vehicle struck the tow truck. The rear passenger side of Abbott’s vehicle struck a JEEP Wrangler, which continued and struck two other vehicles. The JEEP Wrangler crashed into a Nissan Sentra head-on. A Toyota Camry sideswiped the JEEP Wrangler.

Abbott’s passenger, 18-year-old Talon Sewell, was ejected from the GMC Yukon. Sewell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Abbot and a second passenger sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the JEEP Wrangler and her four children sustained minor injuries.

Officers say Abbott had alcohol on his breath and showed signs of impairment.

Abbot was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication and ten counts of reckless endangerment.

The investigation is ongoing.
