Three Memphis men arrested in Hart County following pursuit
MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky State Police arrested three Memphis men following a chase down Interstate 65 Thursday night.
At about 6:42 p.m., a Kentucky State Police Trooper saw a black Chrysler 300 traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on I-65, according to a release from Kentucky State Police.
The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle that was later discovered to be stolen out of Memphis, Tenn. The vehicle began to flee near the 93 mile marker of I-65 and continued southbound to the 63 mile marker in Hart County, according to the release. The operator lost control of the vehicle and struck an uninvolved SUV driven by Kenny Trew, 71, of Scottsville.
The fleeing vehicle became disabled and the driver, along with two passengers, exited the vehicle and attempted to run away, according to the release. After short foot pursuits all three men were taken into custody and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
Trew was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he was listed in stable condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.
The operator of the vehicle, Rickie D. Nelson, 24, of Memphis, is charged with speeding 26 or more over the speed limit, first-degree assault, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), first-degre criminal mischief, driving under the influence first offense, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, operating on suspended license and receiving stolen property $10,000 or more.
A passenger in the vehicle, Martavious D. Williams, 22, of Memphis, is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer).
The second passenger in the vehicle, Kevin Wynn, 24, of Memphis, is charged with possession of a handgun by convicted felon, first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools.
