SKYCTC celebrates opening of $5 million Robert and Mary Tincher Campus Community Center

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College celebrated the completion of a $5 million renovation Wednesday with the official opening of the Robert and Mary Tincher Campus Community Center.

College leaders, students and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the transformation of the former Building D into a new space designed for students, staff and the public.

The renovated facility includes a public art gallery, auditorium, meeting and event spaces, along with areas dedicated to student activities and educational programming.

SKYCTC Chancellor, Michelle Trawick, said the center represents more than an investment in the college’s campus. She said support from the Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation has also helped the college address financial barriers facing its students.

“Eighty percent of our student body is of high financial need,” Trawick said. “What you’re seeing is philanthropy recognizing that financial need and providing resources to reduce the barriers to higher education.”

Trawick said the foundation’s support is also helping SKYCTC work toward a goal of students graduating without taking on student loan debt.

“Because of the Tincher Foundation, we are better able to meet that goal of zero student loan debt,” Trawick said. “We are headed on a path so that no graduates will leave here with any debt.”

The Robert and Mary Tincher Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $3.2 million to the SKYCTC Foundation, making it the largest single donor in the college’s history.

College leaders say the new community center will provide a central gathering place on campus while expanding opportunities for student activities, educational programs and community events.
