Simpson County first responders utilize drone to rescue toddler

FRANKLIN, Ky. – Simpson County first responders rescued a toddler following search June 9.

According to a release, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office received a missing child complaint in the 4300 block of Schweizer Road at approximately 5 pm.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that a two-year-old and a family dog had gone missing.

Simpson County EMS, Franklin/Simpson Fire and Rescue, the Franklin Police Department, Simpson County Constables, and Troopers from KSP Post 3 responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force also responded and provided a drone to help the search, according to the release.

After launching the drone, operators located the dog circling a swimming pool at a nearby home. Personnel responded to the pool and located the child at the pool’s edge.

The child was safe and reunited with their family.

The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force issued the following statement, stressing the importance of modern technology.

This incident is a powerful reminder of what coordinated emergency response and modern technology can accomplish. What could have become a tragedy was averted in minutes, thanks to the eyes-in-the-sky capability that drone technology provides to our first responders.
