Sandhill Cranes Targeted
(WESH) Residents of Umatilla, Florida say some is targeting Sandhill cranes passing through the area during their annual migration.
Jane Lynn says it’s a joy to see the cranes in her yard, but in the last few weeks, she’s seen some that sadden her.
She says she’s counted four with arrows stuck through their bodies.
“That’s the ones we’ve seen, how many others are in other places?” Lynn says. “You’re killing and maiming an animal that’s doing nothing to anybody.”
She says she has no doubt the birds are literally being targeted, and she’s sure she’s seen different cranes hit.
“Absolutely. The arrows are in different parts of their bodies and it’s different types of arrows,” she says.
