One man shot, one man accused behind bars

FRANKLIN, Ky. – One man was hospitalized following a shooting that occurred in Franklin early Wednesday morning and another man is behind bars.

Just before 6 a.m., police were called to 510 Colonial Drive for reports of shots fired.

Police discovered that a 27-year-old man had been shot in the upper chest and had been taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The Franklin Police Department and the Southcentral Kentucky Drug Task force investigated the scene along with K-9 Shadow who found a shotgun in a field nearby.

Neighbors, such as Holly Fleming and Summer Laurenzo said the neighborhood is normally a quite and safe place to live.

“This has always been like a quite neighborhood since I’ve lived here, and it’s just weird to know that something of this extent happened,” said Laurenzo.

“It’s kind of scary and sad that it happened in our neighborhood. You know, they never bothered anybody, but this is a nice neighborhood. I just hate the fact that that happened,” said Fleming.

According to police, Byrle Barnett is charged with attempted murder, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

Travis Frank, an officer for FPD, says officers do not believe the public is in danger.

“Detectives and officers are conducting neighborhood canvasses. They’re talking to all leads, all witnesses, they’re talking to all possibly suspects and family members to just ensure the investigation is done thoroughly and correctly. Officers are walking around the neighborhood canvassing to tell the neighbors what happened so they are not at high alert, to let them know we do have a suspect in custody and we believe this is not going to be an ongoing issue,” said Frank.

The name of the man who was shot has not yet been released.
