One dead after Franklin house fire

FRANKLIN, Ky. – The state fire marshal’s office will begin an investigation Wednesday into a Franklin house fire that claimed the life of someone inside the home.

One person was found deceased after a home at 609 Mayes Lane caught fire, Simpson County Deputy Coroner Patrick Crafton said.

The body of that person will be taken Wednesday for an autopsy to confirm the victim’s identity, Crafton said. Until the autopsy is complete the coroner’s office will not release the name or the gender of the person killed in the fire.

Neighbors told WNKY they saw the blaze at about 5:30 a.m. Monday. They said more than one person lived in the home.

Crafton said no one else died or was injured in the fire.

A fire marshal will investigate the cause and origin of the fire which will determine if the fire was accidental or if the fire will become a criminal matter, Crafton said.

The Franklin-Simpson Fire & Rescue Chief Leslie Goodrum was not immediately available for comment.
