October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-October is important to both women, and men. The month is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Each year, over 260,000 patients are diagnosed with breast cancer. Around 40,000 people die from breast cancer.

Med Center Health Dr. Diego Cabrera says the most important thing you can do is get regular screens to detect breast cancer at an early age. Once you turn 40-45 years old you should start having screens yearly.

The Med Center Breast Clinic opened just last year. As a walk-in clinic they have sped up the process from initial appointment treatment by months….you don’t need a doctor or physician referral.

“Mortality from people dying from breast cancer has severely decreased. Tells you how important it is to diagnose breast cancer at an earlier stage and the best way to do it is with screening,” said Dr. Cabrera.

The Breast Clinic has walk-in hours from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
